Karen N. Luley, Ph.D., Psy.D.

Dr. Luley (she/her/hers) is a Clinical Child Psychologist who specializes in child development and emotional and behavioral difficulties in childhood and adolescence.  She specializes in psychological evaluations, and she also provides psychotherapy for children, teens, and college students, parent therapy, and parent consultations for parents looking for guidance in the best way to help support their children.  Dr. Luley has a unique background with a PhD in Neurobiology and a PsyD in Clinical Psychology.  She combines her knowledge and training in understanding the development of both the brain and the mind to provide the most informed, up-to-date best practices for therapy and assessment.

In therapy, she works from an attachment and child-centered approach to meet the specific needs of each individual.  She enjoys helping children become more in-touch with their emotions, increasing their ability to communicate their feelings and needs, encouraging their own self-acceptance, and empowering them to make healthy choices on how to handle difficult emotions and situations.

In her approach to child assessment, Dr. Luley seeks a balance between art and science, going beyond the numerical data to obtain a comprehensive and intuitive understanding of your child’s strengths and challenges, and their implications for school decisions, parenting strategies, and personality development.  Her approach combines curiosity, thoroughness, and scientific and clinical integrity.  Working with her, you will come away with a nuanced and individualized “roadmap” for making current and future decisions that are uniquely suited for your child.  Dr. Luley is passionate about the importance of early identification of childhood disorders and developing individualized treatment plans tailored to each child’s and family’s needs.

Dr. Luley is a mother of two, and understands that when a child struggles, the whole family is affected.  Because of this, she is passionate about providing services that will promote individual growth and healing, while supporting the family unit as a whole.

When Dr. Luley is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters.  Besides being a wife and a mother, she is an avid reader, an animal-lover, a football and basketball fan, and she also enjoys traveling, being outdoors, and volunteering.
