Do you notice your child struggling but aren’t sure how to help? Does seeing your child struggle bring up your own anxieties, frustrations, and fears? In today’s technological, fast-paced world, children and teens face unique challenges, experiencing heightened levels of mental and emotional distress. This can sometimes open old wounds and insecurities for parents, leaving them unsure of how to best support their child.
Alissa (she/her) works with children, teens, young adults, parents, and families grappling with feelings of “stuckness,” insecurity, anxiety, depression, restlessness, overwhelm, and anger. These feelings can manifest as behavioral or academic challenges at school and home, sleep disturbances, suicidal ideation or self-harm, substance use, problems maintaining relationships, social withdrawal, low self-confidence, self-criticism and doubt, avoidance/procrastination, body image issues, perfectionism, boundaries and communication issues, and increased fighting with siblings and parents.
Alissa is passionate about helping parents and families recognize the cycles of interaction they feel stuck in, sometimes cycles that have been passed down for generations. Together with Alissa, you can find ways of being and communicating that align with your personal and familial values and goals.
Located at our serene office campus with walking trails, a mindfulness room, and a playroom, Alissa tailors each session to foster authenticity and growth. She has experience working in local Triangle nonprofits focusing on LGBTQIA+ equity and children and families. Before beginning her MSW degree, she was a schoolteacher during and through the aftermath of the pandemic. This experience inspired her to work therapeutically with those struggling with feelings of isolation, frustration, restlessness, and disconnection.
In her free time, Alissa loves theatre, live music, cooking, gardening, being outside in all seasons except winter, reading, shamelessly binging reality TV and dramas, listening to podcasts and audiobooks, and playing with her two rescue dogs. Please do not hesitate to reach out for a free 20-minute consultation if you feel Alissa may be a good fit to work with you or your child.
